Care
Dwarf Hummingbird Mint thrives in well-drained, humus-rich soils with regular feeding. It prefers partial shade but tolerates sunny conditions and requires good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases.
Maintenance
Wait until early spring to cut back old stems to allow the crown extra protection during the freezing winter months.
Cleanup
Since Clifton Park is Zone 6a, this variety is reliably hardy (it survives down to Zone 5). However, it will not tolerate 'wet feet' in the winter; ensure it is planted in sharply draining soil to prevent crown rot.
Notes
Like its Mandarin cousin, the foliage and flowers are edible and have a sweet, licorice-like flavor. The leaves can be used in teas or to garnish summer drinks.
