Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the Jun & Kona's Garden website (junsgarden.zapto.org) and the Jun & Kona's Garden Android app (together, the “Service”) handle information. The Service is a personal plant catalog, garden journal, and weather helper. It is run by a private household, not a company.
In short: we don't collect, track, or sell your personal data.
The short version
- We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party trackers.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your information with marketers.
- You can browse the catalog and weather as a guest without creating an account.
- If you leave a comment, the name and message you type are saved and shown publicly on that plant, and they stay there until removed.
- The weather feature sends only the ZIP code you type to third-party weather services so it can return a forecast.
Information we collect
We keep things minimal. The only information stored is what you choose to enter:
- Comments. When you post a comment on a plant, we store the display name you provide, the text of your comment, and the date it was posted. Comments are public — anyone using the Service can see them — and they remain stored until an administrator removes them.
- Likes & favorites. If you like or favorite a plant, we store that choice associated with your username (or a generic “Guest” label if you are not signed in) so the counts and your selections can be shown.
- Account login. A small number of named accounts (family members) can sign in with a username and password to add or manage plants. These credentials are used only to authenticate those users; we do not create accounts for the general public.
- Weather ZIP code. If you use the garden weather feature, the 5‑digit ZIP code you enter is sent to the third-party services below to look up your location and forecast. We do not store your ZIP code on our server.
We do not collect your name (beyond what you type into a comment), email address, phone number, precise GPS location, contacts, or device identifiers.
Information we do not collect
- No advertising identifiers and no ad networks.
- No analytics or usage-tracking SDKs.
- No background location and no microphone access.
- Camera: the app uses the camera only when a signed-in user taps the barcode-scan button on the Add Plant screen, to read a plant-tag barcode. The camera image is processed on your device and is not stored or transmitted — only the decoded text is used to fill in the form.
Third-party services
The Service uses a few external services to provide features. When used, your request goes directly to these providers, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Open-Meteo (weather & air-quality forecasts) — open-meteo.com.
- Zippopotam.us (turns a ZIP code into approximate coordinates) — zippopotam.us.
- Google Maps — only if you tap a garden-center / store link to get directions, which opens Google Maps. See Google's Privacy Policy.
We do not control and are not responsible for the privacy practices of these providers.
Cookies & on-device storage
- The website uses a single session cookie only to keep you signed in while you use the site. It is not used for tracking or advertising.
- Your theme and accessibility preferences are saved locally — in your browser's storage on the website, or on your device in the app. This information stays on your device and is not sent to us.
How information is used
The limited information described above is used only to operate the Service — for example, to display your comment under a plant, show like/favorite counts, keep you signed in, and return a weather forecast for the ZIP code you entered. It is never used for advertising or sold to anyone.
Data retention & removal
Comments and like/favorite records are kept until they are removed by an administrator. If you would like a comment you posted to be deleted, contact us (below) and we will remove it.
Children's privacy
The Service is a family garden project and is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information (for example, in a comment), please contact us and we will remove it.
Security
The website is served over HTTPS. While no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, we take reasonable steps to protect the limited information the Service stores.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
