Care
Pruning when new growth emgers in spring
Maintenance
For the best results in the Capital Region, plant your Pearl Glam in full sun (at least 6 hours of direct light) to ensure the darkest foliage and the most prolific berry production
Cleanup
Timing: Perform cleanup and pruning in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.Pruning Methods:Light Maintenance: Simply remove dead wood or wayward branches to maintain its upright vase shape.Rejuvenation: In colder zones like Clifton Park, you can cut the entire plant back to 6–12 inches above the ground annually. This encourages a more compact, dense habit and a heavy crop of berries.Winter Appearance: Leaves will drop after the first hard frost, but you may choose to leave the stems intact through winter to enjoy the persistent berries.
Notes
While the vibrant berries are a favorite for over 40 species of songbirds, their status for humans and pets is nuanced:Humans: The berries are nontoxic but generally considered unpalatable raw due to a bitter, mealy, or astringent taste. They are most commonly used to make specialty jams, jellies, or wines where they are cooked and heavily sweetened.
