Care
This plant is easily grown in poor to average, well-drained soil and requires high light levels. It is moderately drought-tolerant once established due to its deep taproot.
Maintenance
Grows best in full sun and average to poor, well-drained soil. Moderately drought tolerant once established. Very long-lived perennial.
Cleanup
It is best cleaned up in early spring before it resumes active growth. In late fall or early spring, you can cut the foliage back to ground level to tidy the garden. Be careful not to disturb the crown in late winter when it may not be readily seen.
Notes
This is an exceptionally long-lived perennial that may take 2–3 years to become fully established and produce significant flowering. It is a native perennial that attracts bees and butterflies and is deer-resistant.
